Best Thing I Ever Ate. This Month. At Home.
Blowfish tail and zucchini blossom tenpura! Mutsumi fried this up after finding both ingredients on a trip to Eataly last week. Our first foray in “fugu” at home. Even if it was farmed-raised, it was an amazing piece of fish, held its texture perfectly for tenpura, and was the best thing she made at home the first month of this year!

NYChilifest 2011
Although I’ve had a few bad experiences with NYC food festivals (I will still never go back to Big Apple BBQ!), my unbridled love of chili helped me put that past behind and got me out the door for the NYChilifest 2011 yesterday. And I have to say… I am glad I went! Despite complications and confusion over lines to gain entrance and then to get chili and beer, once you figured out what...

Octopus Five Ways
I love octopus! Dearly. It’s one of my favorite foods. So when we were down at Eataly last week and came across a wonderfully fresh octopus, we just couldn’t pass it up. But it was quite a big beast, with thick, meaty legs and enormous suckers, just the way they should be. And even though they let us buy only one leg, the single limb came in around just under two pounds, which is a...

Luke's Lobster UWS
Luke’s Lobster opened their third location up on the Upper West Side of NYC at the end of last year and I forgot to post pics from our inaugural trip. Highly recommended! Next time you’re in New York, or on the Upper West Side, go here for what I assure you is the best lobster roll you can get on the East Coast outside of Maine! This is their “Noah’s Ark” special:...

Testing Asian Food at Home
My wife Mutsumi is an amazing cook, as evidenced by the over 100 lbs I’ve put on since we’ve been married. Having spent the first 30 years of her life in Japan, there’s no questioning that her specialty is Japanese food. But as her mother always exclusively cooks Japanese, Mutsumi taught herself to cook dishes from other Asian countries over the years as well. And she’s...

Marvel Pizza Art
I love that Iron Man’s chest piece is a whole slice of onion! And a sausage and olive Wolverine?! Classic! More pop culture pizza art, including cool Pac-Man, Star Wars and Hello Kitty pies, can be found over at: http://www.buzzfeed.com/ashleybaccam/yummy-pizza-art

A Look at the Amazing M. Wells
Since opening last year, M. Wells Diner has been one of the most talked about and best reviewed new restaurants in New York. The New York Times also just named them one of the world’s “10 Restaurants Worth a Plane Ride” (http://tinyurl.com/29w9nh3) So after an invite from chef and comic fan Deven DeMarco, I headed out to Long Island City last week to check it out for myself....

2011 Food Trends - My Two Cents...
Better late than never, right? A lot of other bloogers, food writers, reviewers and “lifestyle consultants” already posted their trend lists, but given what I saw in 2010 and what I feel is in the air when I speak with chefs, hear them talk about food and see them planning new dishes and menu items, here are a few quick thoughts about trends I see happening across the food world in...

Happy New Year 2011!!
Hope you all had wonderful holidays! 2011 is gonna be a big year here at Eataku, with lots of plans for expansion and a new look in the works. I’ll be sure to keep you posted, but in the meantime, I hope you’ll keep following my foodie fun and continuing culinary conquests here for now. Thanks for your support and best wishes for an amazing new year! The above pic is of my 2009 New...
