Following up on my Gummy Sushi post from last week, here’s another culinary candy curiosity from Japan… Gummy Takoyaki, aka Octopus Balls!
Strawberry gummy octopus pieces in a peach-flavored base with a caramel sauce and green-sugar topping…
But unlike the simple peel-and-prepare sugary sushi, these octopus balls actually requite a little more time and effort to make…
First, you pour the peach powder into the provided plastic “bowl”…
Add water, not included, and stir…
Pour the peach sugar syrup into the provided plastic mold…
Remove the strawberry gummy octopus pieces from their packaging…
Carefully place the pieces on top of the aleady hardening peach syrup in the mold…
Using the small spoon they included, turn each ball as they continue to harden…
After you’ve flipped them all, squeeze on the caramel sauce…
Which was really only enough to cover four of the six balls…
Then sprinkle on the simulated seaweed sugar. Not sure why mine was white though…
And your octopus balls are ready to eat!
And just how do they taste?
(This was my actual reaction after putting one in my mouth!)
色んな意味でキュートだわー。
