For the last 15 years, Mutsumi and I have had the same tradition on Super Bowl Sunday… we stay home and I cook us wings and sandwiches for the big game. Here’s what this year’s menu looked like…

I did something I previously considered sacrilegious in the kitchen and went ahead and baked my wings yesterday! And by adding a little flour to the mix, their skins did indeed stay crispy. My hot sauce this year was a mix of Cholula, sriacha and Italian peperoncino paste.

This was my take on banh mi, with sliced roast pork and a spicy ground pork & shallot topping. Pickled our own veg for this too. This was Mutsumi’s favorite.

Taking a cue my Michael Voltaggio and my favorite sandwich at his ink.sack shop, I made my own chicken liver & peppercorn mousse and topped it with spiced fried chicken skins. This was my mother-in-law’s favorite.

And this was my favorite… my DBC, roast duck breast with bacon and Fontina. Adding some of the duck fat to the bread really helped pop the flavors, IMO.

Congratulations to the New York Giants!
But our stomachs were the real winners yesterday!!
