I've created Eataku as an online home for people passionately obsessed with food.

People like me.

I travel a lot. I eat a lot. I cook a lot.

As the Talent Scout for Marvel Comics, my job takes me around the world. While I do thrive on the thrill of constant travel, being on the road and away from home for extended periods of time does take its toll. So when not meeting artists or reviewing portfolios, I keep my batteries charged by exploring the culinary culture and cuisine of whatever city or country I find myself in.

Photos of food. Videos of vineyards. Reviews of restaurants. Recipes for refreshments. This site is now my way of sharing my international epicurean adventures with you.

Enjoy!

MAX Burger, Stockholm, Sweden

MAX is Sweden’s oldest hamburger chain, founded in 1968 in the far north of the country. They’ve spread across Sweden over the decades and MAX is more popular than McDonald’s and Burger King here. Although I was in a country that surrounded me with amazing eats, as an international burger ambassador, I had to see for myself what the fuss is all about!

A red carpet and flowers to welcome customers…

They boast “Sweden’s best hamburgers”…

Pristinely clean…

Certified 100% green?

Touchscreen computers for express ordering if the lines are long…

A look at MAX’s menu, which Umami Burger in LA might have a problem with…

I do like that they offer blueberry shakes and ten kinds of dipping sauce for fries…

For my taste test, I ordered three things, MAX’s three “classics”, all of which I found bland and boring, I’m sorry to say.

First up was a small order of their original “Chili Cheese”, basically jalapeno poppers, which were soggy, oily and had no bite to them…

Next up was their “MAX Original Cheeseburger”, which was a basically a poor man’s Whopper, limp and tasteless…

And while I appreciate the fact they put their toppings under the burger (bottomings?), I hate that the didn’t break up the onion and spread it around across the bun a bit more…

Lastly, I tried their “Classic Chicken Burger”, which again seemingly took a cue from Burger King in its deep fried preparation, but failed miserably in offering up any kind of flavor whatsoever…

They even tried to sneak a tomato in there on me on the bottom left!

If you find yourself in Sweden and have an inexplicable craving for fast food, I’d suggest staying away from MAX and sticking to the American originals.
