Woke up early for some pre-con sightseeing and the only place we could find open for breakfast was McDonald’s. They weren’t making their new Brazilian burger yet, so I went with something else I’d never seen on a McDonald’s morning menu back home… a Fried Chicken McMuffin. (Do we have these in the States?) Popped on a little local chili sauce, which was thicker and hotter than I expected, and it was probably the best McDonald’s AM item I can remembering tasting. Nicely done, McDonald’s Arabia!
The name of the newest McDonald’s specialty sandwich here in Dubai makes me childishly chuckle.
Shouldn’t it just be a burger with nothing on it? :)
It’s cherry blossom season in Japan and everything here in Tokyo is pink… including the burgers!
Culinary adventurer that I am, how could I not go to McDonald’s on this trip and try their new Sakura Teritama, aka the Cherry Blossom Burger?
A teriyaki glazed pork patty topped with a fried egg and cherry blossom flavored mayo, all on a pink bun…
Hard to tell, I know, but yes, the bun is slightly pink…
Here’s a look under the hood…
The cherry blossom mayo does give the burger a slightly sweet, floral taste…
Once is enough.
I had a few bites and that was it.
Not something I’ll be bringing to any “hanami” cherry blossom viewing parties.
Oh, they are also offering a Sakura Cherry Float, which might make a nice mixer for hanami cocktails…

Cherry blossom season is upon us… which means there will not only be a lot more drunks in the parks and on the trains across Japan, but more seasonal selections at Japanese fast food joints!
McDonald’s launches their latest offering, the Sakura Teritama burger, this Friday, March 21st.
The Sakura Teritama is a teriyaki-glazed beef patty topped with a fried egg and special “cherry blossom mayo sauce”, all on a special pink bun.
It will be available daily from 10:30am to 4:59am the next morning, encouraging people to pick theirs up before “hanami”, or traditional cherry blossom viewing parties, or drop by McDonald’s afterwards for a late night/early morning fix.
Oddly enough, the campaign does not mention price yet.

Smoked back bacon from a local Irish farm served on a whole grain roll with brown sauce from…
…the McDonald’s Ireland’s breakfast menu!
I love that even Ronald McDonald here greets guests in the traditional Thai manner…
Yes, such a thing exists…
I post this with trepidation, as I fear all my Malaysian friends will never speak to me again knowing I came to Penang, one of the food epicenters of the known universe, and went to a McDonald’s!
But heavy rain all evening meant the night markets and hawker centers, which aren’t covered and enclosed like in Singapore, were all mostly closed.
And edible anthropologist that I am, how could I not try this culture crossing concoction?
Here’s a look…
Taa-daa! Just like a normal McRib, except made from processed chicken…
It’s like a bigger, unbattered Chicken McNugget that’s been “grilled” instead of deep fried..
Do chickens even have ribs?
Just like the version back home, they formed the rib shapes here as well…
And if you really like it, you can get a double!
We took a few bites, and truth be told, it wasn’t half bad. The texture of the chicken patty was a little chewier than what I expected, but with the BBQ sauce and onions it tasted pretty much like the McRibs we get back home once a year.
And don’t worry… I’ve already had four other authentic and amazing Malaysian meals today!
The Bollywood-inspired commecial for McDonald’s Singapore’s new Indian vegetarian potato burger, the McAloo Tikki…
The end of summer in Japan marks the return of the Tsukimi Burger at McDonald’s there. Released annually around this time for as long as I can remember, this “moon watching” burger is topped with a fried egg which is meant to symbolize the full moon in the sky…
Too bad it’s one of those crappy, fake McDonald’s breakfast “eggs”.
It’s also topped with bacon and a ketchup/mayo sauce, which I don’t remember it having before.
McDonald’s Japan is also offering three other variations of this popular burger this year… the Tsukimi with Cheese; the “Big Tsukimi”, with a Quarter Pounder patty; and for the first time ever, the Chicken Tsukimi…
The Chicken Tsukimi joins the party late and won’t hit menus until September 6th.
All the Tsukimi Burgers are available from 10am until 4:59am at all 24 hour McDonald’s locations across Japan. Because once the sun comes up at 5am, the moon goes away!
Until 10am? :)
I want to know how this tastes, Singaporeans!
