Lay’s Potato Chips - Thailand

Continuing Eataku’s international exploration into the world of Lay’s potato chips, today I’ll show you the different flavors I picked up last summer in Thailand…

Sweet Basil…

image

Spicy Lobster…

image

Not to be confused with Lobster Hot Plate…

image

These didn’t have an English explanation, but my guess was they were a spicy Thai sambal…

image

A similar spicy chile flavor, but with dried shrimp, ginger and lime…

image

And what’s an Asian potato chip package without a local celebrity or pop star appearance?

image

Roast salmon flavor…

image

And her boy band counterpart…

image

Hawking spicy meatball flavored chips…

Chinatown Complex, Singapore

Second Breakfast, Day Two…

Butter coffee and kaya toast only whet our appetites, so we headed over to the Chinatown Food Centre for round two!

We began with noodles at “OK For You”…

image

Run by a lone woman who makes every bowl from scratch to order…

image

We went with her simple wonton mee..

image

It was near perfect in its simplicity as is…

image

…but her famed special chillis took the bowl to a whole other level!

image

Especially this one, which had a pickled component in it that she would not divulge. Unless I paid!

image

Next up was Chang Ji Gourmet, for a few of the quick “economical” dishes they are known for…

image

Fish & Peanut Porridge…

image

And fried mee…

image

Both only about 75 cents US each!

We didn’t eat here, but the name made me laugh…

image

Dragon Village Hainanese Curry Rice caught my eye, not only because I fell in love with the dish the day before…

image

…but because of the trays heaping with freshly fried pork cutlets!

image

How could anyone pass this up?!

image

Cut by hand with scissors…

image

This place offered a spicier, more Indonesian style curry on top…

image

Go see these folks if you ever visit!

image

Then it was off to the curry rice joint with not only my favorite name…

image

…but favorite sign of the day as well….

image

Their fresh from the fryer cutlets also cut with scissors as the name of the joint clearly tells you…

image

image

The curry here was made with more coconut milk than the previous places I tried which made it quite sweet…

image

But still oh so tasty!

image

They also offered lor kaw…

image

Or deep fried pork “meatballs”…

image

Yes, these ladies make some “damn nice” curry rice!

Sin Huat Eating House, Singapore

Dinner, Day One…

Last time I was in Singapore, I had one of the best meals of my trip at Sin Huat Eating House. And Chef Danny was even in a good mood!

Chef’s demeanor was a little more sour this visit as all we got were a couple grunts, maybe because we went later in the evening, but we ordered almost the exact same dishes, and it was all just as tasty as the last time!

Scallops with garlic and black bean sauce…

image

Chuut Chuut with chili and garlic…

image

Chef called these something different his time, but they looked and tasted pretty much the same…

image

Pull and eat…

image

image

Chef Danny’s killer chilli sauce with garlic and scallions…

image

Sauteed greens with fresh and dried garlic…

image

And Sin Huat’s signature Crab Bee Hoon…

image

Which I liked MUCH better this time around…

image

image

Mosty because of the inclusion of large amounts of salty and succulent crab brain…

image

Now that’s eatin’!
