I had to make some hard choices given all of the amazing flavors at Humphry Solcombe today, but in the end, I went with a scoop of Honey & Graham Cracker on top of a scoop of Peanut Butter & Chocolate Chip…
Today’s other eclectic ice cream offerings were…
Secret Breakfast is their bourbon ice cream with corn flakes! Oolong Tea was great but a bit too sweet.
I almost went with the Brown Sugar & Fennel!
Jesus Juice was made with red wine and Coca-Cola! And the Paech Habanero was nice, but the finish was a tad too spicy to be enjoyed as ice cream for me.
Salt & Pepper actually tasted like frozen salt and pepper!
My cousin Emma over in Sweden food hazing me with this pic of a soft serve vanilla cone topped with salt licorice bits!
And acquired taste, I know, but one I love…
Cereal milk ice cream with candied corn flake crunch at Momofuku Milk Bar after the Marvel creative summit last night! Thanks, @jasonaaron!!
The original brick & mortar Big Gay Ice Cream shop was one block from Kyo Ya, my favorite Japanese restaurant in NYC, so it was a quick walk if we felt like a Salty Pimp cone after dinner. Now, BGIC has opened their third shop right next door to my other favorite Japanese joint, Hakata Tonton, on Grove St. in the West Village! And I dig the new illustrated sign they have out front…

Maneki Neko, or “Lucky Cat”, ice cream sundaes available now for a limited time only from Baskin Robbins Japan…
A number of you have inquired about the lack of desserts on my end-of-year rankings. Well, I’m pretty open about not really being a sweets guy… but if I had to pick, the best dessert I had in 2013 was the ice cream at Salt & Straw in Portland, Oregon!
The owner isn’t quite sure where he ranks on the island…
Cookies & cream ice cream sandwiched between two homemade cinnamon snickerdoodles… Thank you, @CoolhausNY!
I’d been meaning to post my remaining pics from our Portland trip, but just hadn’t gotten around to them yet as so much as come up in the interim. Then tonight we’re watching Bizarre Foods America and there was Andrew Zimmern in Portland. And there he was at a couple of the places I was going to write about here. Damn. Oh well, what can I say… the man has friends in Portland with the same great taste in food as mime! Like X-Men, Ultimate Spider-Man and Powers writer Brian Bendis, who insisted we could not leave Portland without a visit to Salt & Straw for ice cream…
Check out the crazy, incredible flavors on their menu!
Just perfect for a guy like me who prefers savory over sweet! We tried most of the menu, I must admit, and my favorites were…
Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons
Pear with Blue Cheese (YES!)
Spicy Banana with Walnut (It had chiles in it!)
I do not say this lightly… this is the best ice cream shop in the world!!
